Work Tip # 1: Why It Pays To Be Organized

June 18, 2019

Having good, if not excellent, organizational skills at work is a must. It aids you with proper documentation and tracking of your projects.

Want to know how to keep your files and your work style organized? Look into the following tips below:

1. Chuck your junk.

Consider this as a form of “decluttering.” Throw those old files away and only keep the documents that you really need.

2. Store.

Organize your files in a way that makes sense to you. You can label your documents according to their purpose or use and store them in a folder or an organizer for proper storage and tracking.

3. Tackle your to-do pile.

Being creative and spontaneous at work is easy but it might cause confusion in the long run if handled improperly. Make sure you’ve labelled your tasks as either “Done” or “Pending” for better tracking of productivity.

4. Keep your desk clear.

Whether you’re a “messy” or “neat” type of person, make sure that you adopt the “one-touch” rule. Deal with every piece of paper one at a time – trash it, act on it, or file it.

5. Use technology wisely.

There are websites/apps that are designed to help teams organize, track, and manage their work. Asana is a software-as-a-service wherein teams can create projects, assign work to teammates, specify deadlines, and communicate tasks. It also includes reporting tools, file attachments, calendars and more. Slack, on the other hand, is a messaging software which promotes organizational communication in a shared team workspace.
